elegant style dates back to the early 19th century when America was finally independent from Britain and our young country relied on immigrant furniture craftsman to use traditional European techniques to create sophisticated and fashionable pieces. The Federal Style can most easily be identified by its gently-curving lines, tapered legs, and sober mahoganies.

During the 1780s and 1820s, Federal style furniture heavily influenced the Eastern coastline cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Charleston. The reasoning behind this is that generally the wealthiest families that migrated to America lived in these cities, and this style offered the perfect blend of European influence and the new American way of of life.

This graceful and refined style is still desirable today and is where custom furniture master Richard Oedel draws much of his inspiration from. To learn more, please contact Richard Oedel directly.
