More Than Just an Exhibit: Find Out More About the Process and Local Woods at Old Sturbridge Village
If you’ve never been, Old Sturbridge Village, is an experience worth checking out. Old Sturbridge Village is a New England living history museum that pays tribute to the 1830s, celebrating early American artifacts and folk art during that time period. In addition to exposing you to what life during the 19th century looked like in New England, visitors will see a number of costumed historians, antique buildings, and a working farm among many other things and activities happening throughout the village. Visitors also have the opportunity to partake in stagecoach rides, riverboat rides, and attend events and exhibitions that are taking place throughout the village.
And speaking of events that are happening at Old Sturbridge Village, one of the most anticipated furniture exhibits in New England, Delightfully Designed: The Furniture and Life of Nathan Lombard, will be taking place at the Old Sturbridge Village Visitor Center Gallery through May 4, 2014. Throughout his career in the early 1800s, Lombard became well-known for being one of the finest cabinetmakers in rural Massachusetts.
His work still continues to inspire fine furniture makers today with his inclusion of charismatic eagles and elaborate vine and floral motifs. Lombard is local to the community and was married in Sturbridge. His pieces that will be on display at the exhibit will be the largest assembling of his furniture since they left his workshop.
