I recently shared that now is the perfect time to start the commissioning process to have a truly special piece of furniture made by the 2014 holiday season. Commissioning a custom piece of furniture can take some time, most specifically because I want my clients to take the time to find design elements that really inspire them versus settling for just any piece of furniture.

While there are a number of helpful online resources such as Houzz that you can turn to for furniture design inspiration, I also always recommend that my clients browse through the following design publications:

  • New England Home: As a fine furniture craftsman based in Boston and serving the New England community, I can’t help but promote this publication as it offers a healthy taste of regional style that is appreciated throughout the country. The magazine offers great insight to what is happening in the local design industry and is a great way to keep readers in the loop with emerging trends.
  • Architectural Digest: This magazine is full of inspirational images that represent diverse design styles from around the world. What I love about this publication is that even the architecture of the featured properties can prove to be inspirational when it comes to envisioning that perfect piece of furniture.

For further furniture design inspiration, take note of some of the upcoming design exhibits happening around the region that I frequently share on my blog. You can also contact me, Richard Oedel, Fine Furniture Master, to learn about some additional resources to consider as you begin the commissioning process.
