Easy Ways to Keep Your Wood Furniture Safe From the Elements
The demand for outdoor living space is on the rise, and I’ve had a number of clients come to me in recent years to commission a piece of outdoor wood furniture. Not only does wood furniture help to create a timeless look in your space, but it also will last a long time if you take proper care of it. Here are some helpful tips for keeping your wood furniture safe from the outdoor’s harshest elements:
- Think about your climate. What type of weather are you typically dealing with? Will the wood furniture be exposed to high levels of sunlight or is rain more of a concern? These are all the questions that you should be asking yourself before you commission a piece of wood furniture.
- Take advantage of water sealers. If you live in a climate that gets a lot of rain, consider using a water sealer on your wood furniture. This can also help to prevent your furniture from splitting, rotting or warping. I’d be happy to discuss which sealers I recommend.
- Use a varnish. While this will not protect your wood furniture the way that other methods do, it does allow you to still see the beauty of the wood’s grain.
- Use patio covers. You can use patio covers in addition to some of the finishes that I mentioned above to keep your outdoor wood furniture safe.
If you are unsure about what types of woods or finishes could work best for your needs, I would love to help you discover the perfect solution. To learn more about ways to keep your wood furniture safe from harsh outdoor elements, please contact me, Richard Oedel, Fine Furniture Master.
