I’ve talked a lot about mid-century modern furniture on my design blog lately, and if this is a style that interests you, you may want to consider adding teak furniture to your living space.

While teak furniture was a defining material used in mid-century furniture design, it has gained popularity in recent years due to its eco-friendliness. If you do your research, you’ll find that a number of the forestry companies produce sustainably managed teak.

Aside from being a green friendly material, teak is a superior choice for both indoor and outdoor furniture due to its durability. This type of wood does not need to be finished or protected to stand up to harsh weather conditions.

Teak is one of the most common materials that was used to build mid-century modern furniture, and the finish to the wood was almost always natural to show off its beauty.

Here are just a few of the advantages of adding teak furniture to your living space:

  • Offers longevity. Teak furniture is often considered to be heirloom furniture, passed from generation to generation. That is because the wood is extremely durable as it came from a mature teak tree.
  • Easy to clean. Since teak furniture often does not have a finish, all you need to do is give it a simple wiping.
  • Extremely strong. You don’t need to worry about loading up your teak table with too many dishes. Teak is sturdy and offers reliable strength to stand up to almost anything life can throw at it.
  • Inexpensive to maintain. Since the quality of the wood is so good, you shouldn’t need to spend money making repairs.
