One of the best ways to create a more personal setting in your home is to mix furniture styles. Since some people are a little skeptical about doing so, I wanted to share a few tips on how to mix furniture styles without making your interior design scheme appear too eclectic:

• If you want to use a variety of furniture styles in a room, selecting pieces of the same color or family of colors can help to pull the overall look together.
• When you want to incorporate several different colors and finishes into a room, make a habit of tying each color, texture, or finish used with something else. The goal is not to have too many items that stand alone in their uniqueness, and to have the theme carried throughout the space.
• Don’t stress out about finding exact finish matches for your pieces. Having some variety in these finishes can actually allow the pieces to play off of one another and add character.
