Looking for an Art Deco Piece? Here Are Some Ideas to Get You Started
Due to its ability to exude luxury and glamour while still maintaining a sense of simplicity, the art deco style gained a renewed popularity in the 1960’s and is very much making a comeback today with its sleek lines, geometric patterns, industrial finishes, and modular design.
While this style first rolled out at the World’s Fair in Paris in 1925, the phrase “art deco” used to define this style was not coined until the mid 1960s. The art deco movement was started by a group of architects and designers in France that wanted to tie in elements of fashion and design trends to the furniture of this period.
The unique thing about the art deco period is that it came out at a time when mass production was available, meaning that essentially anyone could embrace this style without having to spend a lot of money. Some of the biggest influences of this period include art nouveau, cubism, and early Hollywood.
If you are considering commissioning a piece of furniture in the art deco style, you may be inspired by some of the images of this time period found on Houzz such as modern glamour oval shaped dining table that is the perfect mix of neoclassical and art deco design or the sleek, angular lines of an antique desk and chair that date back to the 1920s.
