Find an Appreciation for the Craft at the Woodworking Forum at Old Sturbridge Village

While Massachusetts is a state that is rich in history, few people realize the significant influence that the state had on furniture making. For the past 400 years, some of the country’s finest furniture was made in Massachusetts, and to raise the awareness of this, Four Centuries of Massachusetts Furniture was established. Through this effort, a number of furniture education events and exhibitions will be held throughout the state between March 2013 and December 2014 to celebrate this legacy.

An upcoming event that is part of this series that I wanted to highlight is the Woodworking Forum, which will take place on Saturday, March 29th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Old Sturbridge Village Visitor Center. This event will focus on the woodworking techniques of Nathan Lombard and will be hosted by Norm Abram, who is well noted in the woodworking industry himself. Attendees of the event will hear from several members of the Society of American Period Furniture as well as lectures from scholars, conservators, and other woodworkers. Woodworking enthusiasts will also appreciate the exposure to period woodworking tools, such as a recreation of the 19th century Nichols-Colby Sawmill.

To learn more about this event and to reserve your spot, please contact Christie Jackson, Curator of Decorative Arts: 508-347-0206.

I often use my design blog to make my clients aware of upcoming furniture education events happening around the region, so please be sure to subscribe to my blog to stay in the loop. You can also contact me, Richard Oedel, Fine Furniture Master, to learn more about these events.
