Furniture design and creation has come a long way with the introduction of 3D rendering, which allows an artist to take advantage of 3D modeling techniques to make better estimates and more accurately determine how much material will be needed. Also, the client that has requested the custom piece can have a better visualization of what the finished product will look like before it is completed.

3D furniture rendering is something that I personally take advantage of with my business, and I have found that it has been able to offer a lot of value to my clients. For example, you can see a computer generated version of a Monticello side chair that I designed that is derived from an armchair made at the joinery in Monticello during Thomas Jefferson’s lifetime.

Another example of this 3D rendering is of a work surface that I designed that utilizes Chinese Chippendale lattice.  To see an alternate version of this standing work surface, I have created a second piece that includes a different lattice design. Therefore, through 3D furniture rendering, I am able to offer my clients variety to best meet their specified needs.
