Design Museum Boston is New England’s first museum that is dedicated specifically to the world of design. The mission of the museum is to demonstrate the impact that design has on our everyday lives while bringing together and raising the awareness of the local design community.

While the museum hosts a number of exciting exhibits throughout the year, one that I wanted to highlight is the “Street Seats” exhibit. In September of 2012, the museum invited individuals from all over the world to rethink the traditional public park bench while using design and sustainability to improve the communities that each bench would inhabit. The museum received over 170 submissions, and 17 of the most unique and outstanding public benches have been placed around the Fort Point Channel for spectators to view.

Design Museum Boston offers guided tours of the “Street Seats” exhibit the first and third Saturday of every month at 1 pm and 7 pm, and the tours will offer information about the featured designers and their inspiration for each bench.
