While I often talk about exhibits in the New England area, one upcoming event that caught my attention is the “Labour and Wait” exhibit at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. The exhibit runs through September 22nd and features handcrafted wood furniture designed by 16 different artists that embrace traditional craft techniques.

Pieces featured in this exhibition date from the late 1980s to current day, which is a time period when artists have really valued handcrafted “do-it-yourself” concepts over manufacturing and labor. For this reason, this exhibition offers a unique blend of pieces created by artists that possess the 21st century urgency, but embrace the 19th century principles of craftsmanship and authenticity.

The exhibition will be featured at the museum throughout the summer, and a series of talks and events in connection to the exhibit will take place as well. Admission to the exhibit is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and free to museum members and active U.S. military.

Please be sure to check out my blog to find out about other featured museum exhibits.
