Anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship, local history or good design will enjoy the Four Centuries of Massachusetts Furniture exhibition. Classic furniture holds great inspiration for me as I design, then craft pieces for today’s households.

One of the most unique furniture exhibits in New England is housed at the Wright House, in Historic Deerfield, Massachusetts. You’ll have the opportunity to see, close up, 58 pieces of historic furniture, which represent the best of Historic Deerfield’s collection.

It happens sometimes that clients ask me where they can get inspiration for a special item of furniture that they want to have commissioned. Exhibits like this one are an excellent place to browse, learn about different styles and come away with a solid idea.

Certainly, furniture design and function have evolved over the centuries. Homes and farms were often kept in the family, with the furnishings handed down along with the abode. That resulted in a home that might have a few centuries worth of styles within its walls. See some examples of this evolution of furniture in western Massachusetts at the Wright House.

This, one of the best furniture exhibits in New England, takes place at 130 Old Main Street, in historic Deerfield, MA. Admission is $14 per adult, and $7 for children aged 6 to 18. The collection will be available to view through December 31, 2014.

If you are interested in a special piece of handcrafted furniture, please contact me, Richard Oedel.
